Turkey dog food is much too delicious only to be served on the 25th December! A pure, lean meat, turkey is rich in essential nutrients such as riboflavin and phosphorous, and makes a healthy, satisfying dog food. Using only the highest-grade turkey – good enough to serve at any Christmas dinner – we balance our recipe with brown rice for fibre and bowel regularity, naturally-sourced glucosamine & chondroitin to promote bone joint and limb health, natural rubbed herbs, Vitamin C for its antioxidant properties, and yeast extract for a strong immune system. Then we slowly steam the whole meal to lock in all the goodness and flavour. In fact, we think our recipe for turkey and brown rice is so good, it’s a cause for celebration any day of the week!
Although it might be tempting to give your dog scraps from the table such as crispy turkey skin, it’s actually a bad idea. The high fat content can cause pancreatitis, and the seasonings irritate their stomach. A healthier way to give them the crunch they’re looking for? A handful of our Wheat & Gluten Free Mixer!

One of the herbs we use in our turkey recipe is oregano. Tasty and readily digestible, it has high antioxidant and flavonoid properties. A flavonoid is a naturally occurring plant pigment that not only helps the body mitigate the harmful activity of free radicals, but also has powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. And one other benefit? Oregano is known to help dogs prone to digestive problems that cause loose bowels and wind.
A lot of jumpers are made from wool. What’s probably not so widely known is that you can make yarn when you brush your dog, too! The art of spinning with dog hair – or ‘chiengora’ – goes back thousands of years, in many different countries and cultures. For example, the indigenous people of North America often used dog hair to make clothes and ornaments, along with animal hide and plant fibres.
If you’re interested in starting a dog-hair knitting project for yourself, here are a few pointers (excuse the pun). The undercoat from long-haired breeds such as labradors and samoyeds is best. You have to use the hairs you brush out rather than chase around the house with a vacuum cleaner. Clipped hair is NOT usable. Practitioners sometimes combine the dog hair with sheep’s wool to improve overall workability. Once you’ve washed and dried your furball – card and spin in the usual way. And get knitting!
